TAMA began manufacturing drums in 1965 under the name "Star Drums", and Star continues to be used in the names of TAMA's drum models to this day. TAMA was one of the first manufacturers to offer super heavy-duty hardware, and drum mounting systems that did not intrude into the shell.

Starclassic Bubinga shells are made slightly thicker than those in the Starclassic Maple series to provide a more aggressive attack, a fuller deep and dark tone, and more powerful resonance. Starclassic Bubinga is simply an unprecedented combination of sight and sound. This snare features the Starcast mounting system, die-cast hoops, and Evans heads.
